5500-EZ FAQs

When does a Solo 401(k) need to file a 5500-EZ?

If the total of the Solo 401(k) plan assets, (and the assets of all other plans maintained by you or your business,) exceed $250,000 at the end of the plan year, you are required to file Form 5500-EZ. The end of the plan year is typically December 31st.

What is the filing date for the 5500-EZ?

The 5500-EZ is due on the last day of the seventh month after the end of the plan year. If the end of your plan year is 12/31/2021, then your 5500-EZ must be filed by 07/31/22.

How do I file a 5500-EZ?

1. The first step is to download the form from the IRS website. You can do that here: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f5500ez.pdf

2. The next step is to fill out the form. We have created a PDF that guides you through the form which you can findĀ here.

3. Once you have finished filling out the form, mail it to the IRS.
